Park Plaza request for proposals is issued.

The Boston Redevelopment Authority subsequently selects Boston Associates as developer of what comes to be called Park Plaza. The large size of mixed-use project across the Public Garden prompts serious community opposition. The plan is rejected by the state Department of Community Affairs on June 9, 1972, and a revised plan is also rejected in 1973.*
